First things first, there is a major difference between depressive symptoms and depression, which is a medical condition. Several depressive symptoms like daily blues, arguments and fights, negative incidents, etc. can cause temporary sadness. Anyone, if experiencing negative mood, emotional turmoil, physical issues for more than two weeks straight, he/she may be dealing with depression. It is one of the major mental health concerns in the 21st century.

Types of depression

Here are some types of depression:

Bipolar depression- This is associated with depression in bipolar disorder patients

Recurrent depression- This occurs every 2,5 to 8 years in people who are genetically susceptible to getting depression. This may persist for a year.

Chronic depression- This is a long-term depression which is caused due to genetic as well as circumstantial factors.

Depression with a serious illness- It is seen that depression may be couples with serious ailments such as heart attack, diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
