According to experts, most of the heart health problems are seen during winter season. You have to take care of your heart to avoid dangerous diseases. Onlymyhealth editorial team spoke to Dr. Yugal Kishore Mishra, Chief of clinical services, HCMCT, Manipal Hospital, about the same. According to him, you can maintain good heart health by following the these tips:
1. Balanced diet
Have a healthy diet including fruits, vegetables and whole grain. Try to avoid high fat foods to keep the cholesterol levels in your body balanced. Consuming a balanced nutritious diet can be very beneficial for your overall health too.
2. Regular exercise
Exercising regularly or five times a week for atleast 30-40 minutes is good for your health. Anaerobic exercises can help in keeping your heart healthy in winter. Moreover, you can even do yoga or jogging for more effect.
3. Quit smoking
If you have a smoking habit, then quit it immediately. Alcohol consumption should also be done in moderation. The heat that smoking and alcohol consumption produce can be harmful for the heart.
4. Maintain body weight
There is a certain appropriate weight that should be maintained according to an individual's height. If you are obese, then lose the extra weight. You can talk to your doctor or dietician to lose body weight and be fit.
5. Reduce stress
Reducing stress is also one of the tips to maintain heart health in winters. Lead a stress free life for good sleep and other mind and body functions. Heart diseases are also included in lifestyle conditions so reducing stress can help you with a lot of other health problems too.
